Background

The Human Security Institute (THSI) is established in 2020 with a vision to be a think tank of National and International competence working for the cause of Human Security at all cadres.

The concept of human security is an amalgamation of human elements of security, rights and development. It is an inter-disciplinary approach displaying the following characteristics:

  1. People-Centered
  2. Multi-Sectoral
  3. Comprehensive
  4. Context-Specific
  5. Prevention-Oriented

In Pakistan there is not any dedicated institution which is working for human security solely. On the other hand the international community is progressively working towards promoting this concept. As Human Security is interlinked with every single sector in a society thus, human security with relevant themes feasibilities, requires research, recommendations, implementation and evaluation.

While considering the aforementioned aspects, the underpinning idea of THSI is generated. Human security is a people-centered approach, hence, the concept revolves around the importance of affording people “freedom from fear” and freedom from want” and hence “freedom from indignity”. It underlies the idea of protecting the vital core of all human lives in ways that enhance human freedoms and human fulfillment. The crux of Human security is to protect fundamental freedoms- freedoms that are the essence of life. THSI as a think tank will work to fulfill the lacunas with regards to Human Security. In doing so, the Organization will work at a number of research fields covered under the umbrella of human security. It will act as a platform to promote the perception of humanity while playing its due, dedicated, and vital role.
