International Dialogue on Prioritizing Environmental Health Security for Healthier Community in Pakistan

The human security Institute (THIS) has organised an international dialogue on September 27, 2021, about World Environmental Health Day. In the event, a diversity of national and international speakers participated who emphasize the importance of environmental health security for a better and progressive Pakistani community. Dr Sohail Yousuf, Chairman Department Environmental Sciences QAU, Dr M Irfan Khan Dean Environmental Sciences IIUI, Dr Andrew Mathieson Australian National University, Dr Vivien How University Putra Malaysia, Ms Lucy Irungu Founder Interlink of Peace and Human Security, Dr. Rubina Waseem Assistant Professor Strategic Studies NDU, Ms Humaira Syed Director Asia Chapter Team Asunaro Japan and Mr Munawar  Mahar Faculty memeber International Relations NUML joined as guest speaker.

While talking about environmental health, COVID impacts were given priority due to the most engraved issue of the time. It was highlighted in the event that Environment-Health nexus in the context of water and food in Pakistan is critical as its a security agenda for Pakistan. Ms Lucy from Kenya emphasised that the existing environmental health policies may not adequately address the security-related issues. Dr Rubina Waseem talked about the challenges Pakistan is facing amid COVID 19 and to way forward, she explained the importance of working in collaboration for a better future. Ms Vivien How from Malaysia illustrated the importance of Agriculture and its revival for better planetary health. Mr Munawar Mahar (NUML) traced out the historical background of environmental crisis and also explained the lesson learning for Pakistan.
